Indra to modernize ground-to-air communications system for Canada’s Department of National Defence

MADRID, February 27, 2025 — Indra has been awarded a contract valued at more than €13 million by the Department of National Defence (DND) of Canada to modernize its nationwide ground-to-air communications network. The upgrade will deliver approximately 600 next-generation Park Air radio systems designed to enhance communication security, reliability and efficiency across Canadian defense and air traffic operations.
The new radios, part of Indra’s Park Air T6 product line, feature simultaneous call transmission (SCTO) capabilities that enable pilots and controllers to communicate seamlessly in high-traffic environments. The systems incorporate advanced IP architecture, which allows greater flexibility, scalability and operational resilience while also reducing energy consumption and environmental impact through a more compact and efficient design.
Indra will also provide M7 interoperable radios, fully compatible with the secure frequencies used by NATO members and other allied defense organizations.
“This award strengthens Indra’s role as a trusted partner to NATO nations and reinforces our leadership in delivering innovative, secure and sustainable communications solutions,” said Víctor Martínez García, General Manager of ATM at Indra. “It represents a major step forward for our air traffic management and defense business in Canada and globally.”
The radios will be produced at Indra’s Park Air Center of Excellence in the United Kingdom, a facility internationally recognized for its expertise in advanced aerospace and defense communications systems. To ensure optimal performance and local responsiveness, Indra will also maintain a dedicated support team in Canada to provide ongoing technical assistance and customer service.
The project further expands Indra’s footprint in the Canadian market, where the company plays a key role in advancing the country’s air traffic management capabilities through its collaboration with NAV CANADA and participation in the iTEC Alliance, a European-led initiative to promote safer, more efficient and sustainable aviation.
With technology deployed at more than 11,000 air traffic facilities worldwide, Indra contributes to the safety of 85% of daily air passengers globally, underscoring its leadership in the aerospace and defense sectors.
