Indra to deliver advanced traffic and tolling technology for Atlanta’s SR 400 express lanes

MADRID, December 9, 2024 — Global technology and consulting firm Indra has been selected to provide its most advanced traffic management and open road tolling solutions for the new SR 400 Express Lanes project in Atlanta.

As part of the SR 400 Peach Partners consortium, which includes ACS Infrastructure Development, Acciona, and Meridiam, Indra will serve as the project’s technology partner. The consortium has been awarded a 55-year contract by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) to design, build, finance, operate, and maintain the project in one of the fastest-growing metro areas in the United States.

Indra’s cloud-based technology will manage traffic operations and introduce a dynamically priced open road tolling (ORT) system along more than 16 miles of SR 400, helping improve safety, efficiency and reliability for motorists. The integrated platform combines intelligent traffic systems (ITS), advanced communications, and predictive analytics to enhance vehicle classification, optimize maintenance, and support real-time decision-making.

“Our deployment on the SR 400 Express Lanes represents a major step toward more sustainable and flexible mobility,” said Raúl Ripio, Managing Director of Mobility & Technology at Indra. “These lanes will help reduce congestion and emissions while delivering a smoother, safer experience for drivers. The future of transportation is already here, and the U.S. is leading the way.”

Indra’s work on SR 400 builds on its long-term presence in the U.S. mobility market. The company previously implemented its ORT and high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) detection technology on Virginia’s I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes, a project recognized with the IBTTA Toll Excellence Award. Indra’s systems are also in use on major interstates in North Carolina and Virginia, including the I-485, I-95, I-495, and I-395 corridors.
